Using Derive to plot Quadratics.

The Derive program can be found by clicking on the "All Programs" section of your "Start" menu. Click on Derive and answer "Yes" to the factory settings question box.

At the bottom of the main program window is the box for entering the equation that you desire to plot.
Type your equation in here.
You raise x to a power by typing x^3 etc. The ^ key is located above the 6 on the keyboards that I'm using!
Press Return/Enter when you have finished.

The main screen should now contain your equation which should be highlighted to show that it is the acxtive equation.

Now click on the window tab and select "New 2D-Window".

Go back to the window tab and click on tile vertically.
You should now have two windows open side by side.
Click on the window to make it active and then resize them by dragging the edges until they look nice.

Click on the 2D-plot-Window and hit the plot button.
Your graph should appear.

These buttons allow you to zoom in and out.
There are other buttons for scales, labels and colours. Save the sheet as it stands and then play with the other buttons to find out what they do.

To alter your equation click on the Algebra Window and right click on your equation.

It should now reappear in the equation entry box. Edit away and then press return.
You will now need to plot the graph again. There is a big red X button to delete previous graphs or you can delete them using the menu in the Algebra Window.
