Drawing Graphs in Excel 1

You are going to use an Excel spreadsheet to investigate different kinds of graphs.

Bar Pie Line

If you have some data from your lesson then use that. If not use the data given in the table below.

Open a new Excel Workbook.
If you don't know how to do this then look at the picture in Beginning Excel 1.

Bar Chart

Copy the rainfall data into your Excel workbook. It should look exactly like the picture below when you have finished.

Now click in the "January" cell and drag the mouse down and left.

It should go blue like this. Keep going until you reach the bottom left hand corner. Then let go.

Now click on the Chart Wizard button.

If Excel hasn't guessed that you want to make a chart with vertical columns then click on the column chart option.

If you click next three times and then finish you will obtain a bar chart like the one below.

If you right click on the chart area and play with the menus then you can alter just about everything about the way that your chart looks.
Have a play and then check with your teacher before printing off an example for your exercise book.

Pie Chart

Copy the money information onto a new workbook or worksheet.
Then follow the instructions as given for a bar chart until you have reached the Chart Wizard.

Here you must choose the pie chart option.

If you click next three times and then finish you will obtain a bar chart like the one below.

If you right click on the chart area and play with the menus then you can alter just about everything about the way that your chart looks.
Have a play and then check with your teacher before printing off an example for your exercise book.

Line Graphs

Copy in the "number and square" set of data into a new workbook.

Follow the same method as before but in the Chart Wizard be careful to pick this option.

If you click next three times and then finish you will obtain a bar chart like the one below.
